An Announcement of Sorts

Published by reetodd at 1:18 am under Uncategorized Edit This

So I’ve been thinking about politics a lot (like everyone else), and I’ve come to a conclusion.  And that conclusion is that anyone that the Republicans and Democrats choose will be a total disaster.  So I want to run… in 2020. I won’t be old enough to run until then.  Never hurts to get a head start.

Let’s be clear.  I don’t want to be president.  I don’t even want to be a politician.  So for the love of existence, someone else that thinks how I think run instead.  But just in case no one else does, let me lay out my platform.

1. The National Guard Should Guard the Nation:  Pretty clear, right?  Then tell that to the folks currently in charge.  What I would do is pull every Guardsman from overseas, and put them on our borders PERMANENTLY or post them in the bases in the US.  They would NEVER be posted overseas.  How exactly are they guarding the US if they aren’t here to guard it?  Not only that, but the duties of the INS, ICE, and Homeland Security would all be placed in their jurisdiction.  After all, these are all departments that deal which guarding the nation, and that is what the Nation Guard is supposed to do.

2. Good-bye Patriot Act: I hate the Patriot Act.  It’s unconstitutional.  Someone, for the love of Pete, take this to the Supreme Court.  Personally, I would rather be free and dead than a living slave.

3. All US “Territories” Should Decide to Stay or Go:  I would put it up to our various territories and commonwealths (such as Guam, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Samoa, etc.), and tell them to vote on whether they want to be states or not.  If they want to be states, then they will be welcomed to statehood with all the rights and burdens of that title.  If they do not want to be states, then they are cut loose to follow their own fates.  More specifically, the next election would allow the citizens of these territories to partake in a popular vote that would need a two thirds majority allowing them to become states.  If they do not reach that two thirds, they will become free nations, independent of the US.  All people in those places that vote to leave who are born up to the first of the following year would still be granted US citizenship, but all those after would not be granted citizenship.  All those who vote for statehood would be granted representatives in Congress and get two Senators, as well as elective votes for the presidential elections.

4. Good-bye Anchor Baby Laws: You have to be the child of at least one US citizen to be a US citizen.  Just because you’re born here doesn’t get you citizenship.  It will, however, get you to move up the list for consideration for green cards, work and student visas, and only take you two years to become a citizen as opposed to seven.

5. Laws Can Be Taken Away by Judges But Not Implemented by Them: That’s right.  Judges can say that a law is unconstitutional, but then the said law is destroyed.  Said judge cannot implement a replacement.  Only the legislature can make laws.

6. No More Executive Orders: As in the above statement, only the legislature can make laws.

7. No Military Action Without a Declaration of War: No more military conflicts, military actions, or military operations.  Only wars.  If the Congress does not declare war, then the military cannot be involved… end of story.

8. No More “Philosophical” Wars: No war on drugs, no war on poverty… you get the idea.  Unless Congress can declare war on it and it be fought with the military, it is not a war.

9. Bring Back the Soldiers Home… Kind Of: We go to every country that we have a military base and ask them if they want us there.  If they say no, we sell them our base and pull our troops and equipment out.  Germany, Korea, Japan, Saudi Arabia… there are tons of them.  If they want us there, we stay.  If they don’t, we leave.  End of story.

10. No More Money to the UN: Not one penny.  And if they want to stay in New York, they have to buy the building at current market value.  If any private citizen wants to donate to the UN, that’s their business.  But not the government’s.  The UN would be given one month to decide if they want to buy the building and stay, as well as find alternative financing.

11. Total Free Trade: That’s right.  No tariffs, no embargo… we will trade with anyone and anything except military technology.  The only way to world peace is financial interdependency.

12. My Supreme Court Choices: All my picks would be strict Constitutionalists.  I will do my best to pick justices that are willing to put their political, moral, and religious agendas aside so that they can look at whether the issue at hand is Constitutional or not.  That’s it.  If you can’t do that, then you shouldn’t be on the Supreme Court.

13. Legalize All Drugs: I’ll legalize them then I’m gonna tax the crap out of them.  Restrictions on purchasing and using them will be similar to those regulating tobacco and alcohol.

14. The Rebirth of the State Militia: Yes, I think that each state should have their own military, either funded and regulated by the state or a volunteer militia funded by its members.  When the National Guard can’t be there to protect you, the state’s forces will be.

15. Tax System Overhaul: All federal taxes on the books would be thrown out, including the federal income tax.  They will be replaced with a 5% sales tax on everything.  States can still tax however they feel like it.  That’s their problem.

16. No Foreign Aid: If you want to donate time and money to help foreign countries, it’s your time and money.  Charity is charity if you give willingly out of the kindness of your heart.  It is not charity if the government takes your money by force through threats of jail and gives it away without telling you where it goes.

17. Day to Day Affairs Are Given Back to the States: Roads, power plants, water treatment, teapot museum construction… the federal government will not touch any of these things.  If the states want them, they can gather the money and take care of them.  If something involves a bunch of states, such as a power plant or water treatment plant on a shared river or lake, then the states involved can work it out between themselves.

Okay, I’m tired and currently out of ideas of what I’d like to see done in the next 12 years so that I don’t have to run.  I REALLY don’t want to be president.  It’s too much of a headache, and I really don’t want that many people depending on me to make the big decisions.  I’d much rather be vice president to a young, healthy, and well-liked president.  No real power (unless the senate deadlocks) and no real responsibility (except keeping my nose clean so as not to embarrass the president).  So come on, America. Don’t make me run.

My name is Ree and I approved this message.
